A true story about a two-word rebuttal that ended twenty minutes of nagging.
We were twenty minutes into a negotiation about wearing a coat. I had used reasoning, bribery, a countdown, and finally the phrase 'because I said so', which I had sworn never to use.
She looked up at me, entirely calm, and said: 'You're cold.'
Reader, I was cold. She was wearing a fleece dinosaur onesie and had been running laps of the hallway for a quarter of an hour.
I put on my own coat. She went outside without one, was fine, and has never let me forget it.
